How to Do This Activity
Choose a puzzle that's slightly challenging for your child. Work on it together across several sessions, noticing how it gets easier with practice. Talk about how their brain is getting stronger at figuring out where pieces go, just like muscles get stronger with exercise.
Why It Works
When parents model and reinforce growth mindset beliefs, children show greater persistence and develop stronger academic skills over time. This activity makes learning visible by showing your child concrete evidence that practice leads to improvement. The repeated exposure helps internalize the belief that abilities grow with effort.

Tips for Parents
Point out specific improvements: 'Yesterday you needed help with the corner pieces. Today you're finding them yourself.'
Use 'yet' language when your child struggles: 'You haven't figured out where that piece goes yet.' Avoid saying 'You're so smart' and instead say 'You kept trying different spots until you found the right one.'
